MOTOR FLEET INSURANCE FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Choosing a commercial fleet insurance policy is often cheaper for a business than covering vehicles individually, whether your fleet is made up of cars, vans, lorries or a combination.

Tradesure’s commercial motor fleet insurance has many benefits:

  • Saves you time – you only have one policy to pay for and renew
  • Saves you money – typically costs less than insuring all your vehicles separately
  • Get a dedicated fleet manager to help you with your policy
  • Add vehicle breakdown recovery to your fleet insurance
  • Different cover levels available – get comprehensive cover, third party, fire and theft, or third party only

WHAT IS MOTOR FLEET INSURANCE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Commercial fleet insurance, also known as motor fleet insurance, is cover designed for businesses with three or more company registered vehicles.

It works by putting all your commercial vehicles on a single policy, with an ‘any driver’ rule, removing the hassle of lots of different policies. Although it’s sometimes referred to as fleet van insurance, you can cover a wide range of vehicles on a commercial fleet policy, including cars, vans and lorries.

There’s no vehicle weight restriction on the business fleet insurance we offer.

WHY COMMERCIAL FLEET INSURANCE MAKES SENSE

With a motor fleet insurance policy, the insurer spreads the risk – and any claims costs – across all your vehicles on the policy, meaning you benefit from lower premiums. The more vehicles you have on your commercial fleet policy, the more you can potentially save against insuring those vehicles individually.

The ‘fleet insurance any driver cover’ usually means that anyone over 25 with a full licence who has been resident in the UK at least three years can drive the vehicles on your policy. Policies for over-21s who fit the other criteria are sometimes possible.

You can choose the level of cover you need from third party, third party fire and theft, and comprehensive cover. In reality, most insurers offer comprehensive fleet cover as standard – this makes for better risk management for you as the owner, and makes sure your fleet vehicles are covered for any incident.

WHO CAN GET FLEET INSURANCE?

To qualify for a commercial fleet insurance policy, you must usually be 25 or over, have held a full UK driving licence for over 12 months and have been a UK resident for over 3 years. It is sometimes possible to get a policy aged 21 and over, depending on the other criteria and the insurer terms. Your fleet drivers can include anyone aged 21 or older who meets the above license and UK residency criteria.

All the vehicles in your fleet need to be registered under the same company ownership for the policy to be valid.

As fleet insurance brokers we also offer motor trade cover and combined motor trade insurance. We can include liability insurance within your business cover policy to ensure you’re protected for any claims made against you or your company.

WHAT INFORMATION IS NEEDED TO GET A POLICY?

The registrations of your vehicles and your business address need to be provided when you buy your fleet insurance policy. You can give us the values of your vehicles, or have them written into the policy at market value.

We’ll also ask you for your CCE, or confirmed claims experience. This is very important, as it provides us with information on your previous fleet cover claims history. If you’ve not had fleet cover before, we’ll need proof of your no claims bonus for the individual vehicles instead.

If your business only has one vehicle, our Road Risk Insurance may be the most suitable option for your needs.
